Privacy policy

Inkling helps you understand and express yourself in another language. This policy covers the Inkling browser extension and meetinkling.xyz.

Who to contact

Inkling is operated by its independent developer. For privacy questions, account access or deletion requests, contact [email protected]. Please contact us from your account email where possible; we may need to verify ownership.

Information we handle

• Account and sign-in information: your email, name, profile information supplied by Google, account identifier and authentication sessions. Google handles your Google password; Inkling does not receive it. Sign-in records may include your IP address and browser information.
• Text you submit: selected words or passages, the surrounding sentence used for context, and text you submit for translation, rephrasing or practice. This can include personal communications if you choose to submit them. Avoid submitting confidential or sensitive information.
• Learning information: language preferences, proficiency level, saved vocabulary, notes, practice answers, feedback and review records associated with your account.
• Operational information: request timestamps, daily AI request counts, service errors, security and network logs, which may include IP addresses and request paths. We also store feedback you send us with your account identifier.
• Local extension storage: the session token, connection settings, account-specific cached level and recent lookup queries. Website session cookies support sign-in. Removing the extension or clearing its storage removes its local data, but does not delete server-side account data.

When webpage text is sent

The extension detects selections and editable fields locally to display its controls. Selecting text alone does not send that text for AI processing. When you invoke an explanation or submit writing, the selected or entered text and relevant context are sent to Inkling's server. The current interface does not automatically upload whole webpages or collect a list of your browsing history. Local selection, mouse and keyboard events support the interface; they are not recorded as a general keystroke or browsing-activity log.

How we use information

We use this information to authenticate you, generate language assistance, personalize explanations, synchronize your learning data, schedule reviews, apply usage limits, respond to feedback, and maintain the service's security and reliability. We do not sell personal data, use it for personalized advertising, or use it to determine creditworthiness or lending eligibility.

Service providers and transfers

AI requests are processed through Inkling's backend using DeepSeek. Submitted text, relevant context and learning settings needed to generate a response are sent to that provider. Google provides sign-in; Cloudflare provides DNS, proxy and security services; Tencent Cloud hosts the application server in Singapore. These providers may process information in other countries under their own policies. Inkling does not promise that AI providers immediately delete requests or that all processing stays in your country.

We share information only as needed to provide the disclosed features, meet legal obligations, protect security, or handle a business transfer subject to applicable protections. We do not give other users access to your account's learning data.

Retention and deletion

We keep account and saved learning data while needed to provide your account and requested features. AI assistance requests are processed to generate results; they are not automatically saved as a complete conversation history in Inkling's learning library. Content you explicitly save, practice submissions and feedback may be retained. Operational logs, usage counters and backups have separate retention needs; the beta does not yet apply one fixed automatic deletion period across all systems.

You can change preferences and delete supported saved items through the product. To request account deletion or access to your data, email the contact above. We will verify the request and explain any information that must remain for security or legal reasons. Backup copies may persist until rotated or removed; provider-held data is subject to the relevant provider's retention rules.

Permissions and security

Website access enables contextual selection and writing assistance on supported webpages. Network access connects the extension to the backend. Storage keeps the local data described above. The alarms permission periodically refreshes the toolbar's due-review count. You can restrict website access or uninstall the extension in Chrome; restricting access may disable features on those sites.

The official service uses HTTPS and account-based access controls. No service can guarantee absolute security. Do not share session credentials or submit secrets to AI features.

Your choices and rights

You choose which text to submit and which learning items to save. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, receive a copy of your data, withdraw consent where applicable, or complain to a data protection authority. Contact us to exercise these rights. We process data to provide the service you request, maintain legitimate security and operational interests, comply with legal obligations, and obtain consent where required.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Inkling's use and transfer of information received through the extension will comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. User data is used for the disclosed language-learning features and permitted related operational purposes. Human access is limited to what is necessary and permitted for support with your explicit agreement, security investigations or legal obligations.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service changes. The effective date above identifies the latest version. Material changes will be communicated through the website or another appropriate channel.
